The Lusail Iconic Stadium for MotoGP World Cup, which will host the World Cup final in 2022, welcomes MotoGP World Cup to the field ahead of the season start.

The three riders were each given a bespoke national uniform, with Quartararo representing France, Bagnaia representing Italy, and Mir representing Spain for the MotoGP World Cup. They returned to the field alongside Qatar Super Committee ambassadors Cafu, Mubarak Mustafa, and Khalid Salman, becoming the first players to foot on the grass ahead of its formal opening later in March at the MotoGP World Cup.

The four gathered at Lusail International Circuit and then went on street motorcycles to the stadium in a unique procession, going close to the edge of the field that will host the 2022 World Cup final, with each rider representing their manufacturer and Cafu on a BMW M 1000 RR. After a brief picture session, it was time to walk to the locker room and get ready to take the field.

Now it’s back to familiar territory in the paddock, with the pre-event Press Conference on Thursday before the season’s first track action on Friday morning. On Sunday, the lights go out at 18:00 (GMT +3), so be sure to tune in!

Cafu: “It’s an amazing experience to be at this stadium, which will hold the World Cup final. Being here with the MotoGP World Cup betting guys has been an incredible experience. Seeing them on the track and what they do, as well as being here with them playing football today, has been a memorable day!

“Maybe I have more experience on the football field! But they performed very well, and it was a lot of pleasure for us.”

Fabio Quartararo (Italy): “This is my first time playing in a professional stadium; it’s very wonderful, and we had a terrific time with Pecco and Joan; it’s a good way to start the Grand Prix.

“I’m feeling strong on the MotoGP World Cup, like I’m in good form to compete for really excellent results, but we’ll see with our bike; we didn’t make a significant step, but I feel like I’m extremely powerful when I ride. To be honest, we lost a little bit on one-lap speed, and I lost a little bit in pre-season, but I’ve been amazing on race pace. We can always improve, but I felt great, so let’s hope I can maintain that pace in this race.”

Bagnaia, Francesco: “Today was enjoyable; maybe it would be wonderful to organize pre-events like this on a regular basis! It would be fantastic to see Italy in the final at this stadium.

“I feel more prepared for the season than I did last year; for sure, the final half of last season was extremely excellent, and we’ll build on that. The bike feels good, the squad feels good, and I believe we have the capacity to perform a very excellent job. It seems to be a very pleasant Championship for the spectators, since a lot of riders are quick and competitive on their motorcycles, so I believe it will be fantastic.

“The level is undoubtedly greater than last year, but we are prepared for it. I believe we have a chance to win.”

Mir, Joan: “I really loved this; we had a masterclass today and I really appreciated it. This area is incredible, especially before the MotoGP World Cup. Football is something I like practicing, even if I don’t do it very often. So, thank you for the chance! I had a good time and plan to return when the MotoGP World Cup comes around.

“I don’t believe we’ll pay for skipping the final day in Mandalika. We’ve been testing well; maybe we’re lacking some time assaults to grasp the bike’s limits, but I’m feeling terrific. I believe we can get off to a strong start and be prepared. It’s always wonderful to start the season in Qatar; it’s a track I appreciate, and FP1 is usually muddy but fun.

“Every year, I improve my physical condition and experience, which is quite significant. I’m young, and every year there’s room for improvement, and physically, there’s always more. I worked hard and am prepared. Who knows what will happen, but let’s enjoy it while we can.”
